Joe D-Alessandris a 45-year coaching experience was about to start his ninth season as the head offensive line coach for Baltimore. Joe had a wealth of knowledge of coaching and developing linemen in both the professional and collegiate divisions. D-Alessandris had been a mentor for players for the chiefs in charge, Bills, Chargers, and Ravens since making the move to the NFL in 2008.
Joe D-Alessandris Die at 70
D-Alessandris, who had been the Ravens' coach since 2017, passed away on Sunday after a protracted illness. He was seventy years old. Earlier this month, Coach D, as he was lovingly called, left the Ravens to get medical attention for his illness. The team declared his death a mere two weeks later.
World Leagues
He was a mentor for athletes in the NCAA, CFL, and World League before joining the NFL. Throughout his seven complete seasons in Baltimore, D-Alessandris had coached several young offensive linemen, including veterans like Kevin Zeitler and Marshal Yanda as well as Pro Bowlers Tyler Linderbaum, Ronnie Stanley, and Orlando Brown Jr.
2023 Season
With 26 rushing touchdowns in a single season, the Ravens broke the franchise mark in 2023. They also ended with the fifth-highest rushing total (2,661) in team history, having surpassed 100 yards on the ground in all 17 of their regular season games.
2022 Season
The Ravens led the league in runs of 10 yards or more (88), games with at least 150+ rushing yards, and rushing yards per game (160.0), ranking second in the league.
2021 Season
The Ravens equaled the NFL record for the most consecutive games with 100 or more running yards (43 games, 2018–21) during the 2021 season.
2020 Season
The Ravens had the third-most rushing yards (3,071) in a 16-game season in 2020 and were the NFL top-rated rushing assault for the second straight year. Baltimore set a new team record for the most running touchdowns in a season with 24, ranking third in the NFL.
2019 Season
The Ravens broke the 1978 Patriots single-season record of 3,165 yards running in 2019 with a new record of 3,296. For the first time, Baltimore finished a season with an average of 200 passing and 200 running yards per game.
The Old Legacy from 1997 to 2001
Joe D-Alessandris taught several O-linemen who went on to play in the NFL, such as T Drew Strojny and G Lenny Friedman, who was selected by Denver in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft and had a successful 10-year career. Tutored two future NFL players who signed as rookie free agents which are C Troy Andrew of Miami and C Shawn Lynch of Arizona.
The Old Legacy from 1977 to 1996
Early in his career, D-Alessandris coached opposing line positions in the World League, CFL, and academic Livingston University's coaching staff full-time after serving as a graduate assistant for two years at his Alma institution. The Aggies had a 10-0-1 record and averaged 172.0 running yards per game while playing for Texas A&M in 1994.
